ABOUT KARLA
Karla Puno Garcia is a proud Filipina-American based in NYC. A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, she has performed on TV, film, and four Broadway shows, most recently seen in Hamilton: An American Musical.
As a female choreographer of color, Karla strongly emphasizes musicality and unapologetic individuality to create worlds and bring characters to life. She is excited to tell NEW stories that bring to light other BIPOC performers and their perspectives.
This summer, she choreographed additional scenes in the upcoming Netflix film Tick Tick Boom, directed by Lin Manuel Miranda. Other choreographic credits include ENCORES Off-Center production of GONE MISSING, the Prospect Theater Company production of 1001 Nights and A Day, and Virginia Repertory's production of IN THE HEIGHTS, which she received the Richmond Theatre Critics Award for Best Choreography. She recently worked as Associate Choreographer to Sergio Trujillo for the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors. Karla has also choreographed numerous works for Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS, including the 2016 piece “America” representing the cast of Hamilton: An American Musical which she directed and choreographed and won Best Performance in the Red Bucket Follies.
Karla is currently working on a new exciting musical about videogames and human connection entitled Other World, written by Hunter Bell, Jeffrey Bowen, and Ann Mcnamee; set to premiere at Delaware Theatre Company Spring 2022.
